ICT equipment that is not managed responsibly can become e-waste once it is no longer needed. Examples of e-waste that are unnecessarily contributing to Australia’s landfill include computers, laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, mobile phones, multi-function devices, copiers, and fax machines. 95% of these items can be recycled; however, in Australia, less than 10% of end-of- life IT equipment is recycled.

R2v3 wraps a best-practice standard and an independent accountability mechanism around the management and movement of an electronic device from the point of departure from a first user’s site through the many layers of the reverse supply chain. This is achieved through rigorous annual third-party audits of R2v3-certified facilities and through transparency and accountability throughout the entire reuse/recycling chain of used electronic products.
